Looks like the Figure is wearing a Norman type helmet, my guess is this bronze is earlier than medieval.

Russell, it looks like a 19/20C army military(brass buckle) showing " a lion standing above/on a Victorian style crown" see also - http://diggerhistory.info/pages-badges/crowned-lion.htm

Think it’s just the image Jim, it’s not a helmet. See above example which could also resemble a helmet, but it’s the style of the sculpture.
