New Permission and a Hammered Farthing

I visited a local farm on Friday, and asked the farmer for permission, which he granted :-)

He said that there is a suspected Roman Villa on site, and he took me out in his truck and showed me the spot, which incidentally is where a previous detectorist had found a gold coin.

So, I decided to make that the first place I hunted. Sadly, there were no obvious signs of roman habitation, and virtually no strong solid signals. So, after digging a number of dodgy signals, and with a gradually filling rubbish bag, I was pleased with a loud repeating bleep in my ear. About 5 inches down I uncovered a dirty black coin, which turned out to be a Edward Hammered Farthing. I'm not certain, but I think it could be Edward 1st.

Not a bad start for a new permission.

Also obtained a new permission today. I know a couple of other detectorists have permission as well but wouldn't accommodate a club 😣 😣
